Nerina & Giovanni - Trieste Italy - April 2nd, 1956

This week Nonna came over my house and we sorted through her wedding album- which at this point is a box full of photographs from her younger years growing up in Trieste Italy and her wedding.

These photographs played such a key part in my life. They've allowed me to appreciate my grandparents, my heritage, and the endeavor of coming to America from Italy in the late 50's. I can't even imagine leaving my entire family to go to a country I've never been, with no job lined up, no savings, and little knowledge of the English language. After my grandparents married, they left Trieste for a little apartment in West Philadelphia and we've been here ever since.

My Nonno's passing in 2008 has been difficult for our family. But these photographs of happy times let us remember him so fully and remind us that love and happiness can come from struggle and hard times.

Nonna and Nonno on their wedding day in Trieste, Italy, April 2nd, 1956!  My Nonna was such a (modest) babe! This is a page from their wedding album that was torn out. My Nonna admitted to not taking care of the album. I offered to get a new one but she didn't want to.

This is a page from their proofing book! LOVE my Nonno's smile! Absolutely cheesin'. And My Zia Pina poking her head through on the bottom middle image!

I believe this is their invitation. I've been wearing my Nonna's wedding ring for the past 5 years. Inside is my Nonno's name, Gianni, and the date they were married. Nonno is buried with his ring.

Our main mission of pulling out this photos was to better organize them. Basically she has a box of black and white photographs ranging from her as a little girl to when she came to America with my Nonno and started to have children.

This is my mother and father's wedding album. When they got divorced I got to keep their album! I'm really happy I have these photographs to look back onto my entire family, including ones who have passed. I'm happy I can preserve these memories and perhaps pass them onto me or my brother's children one day.
