What makes Colonial Dames so special is that you could walk right past it and not even know what beauty lies behind it’s brick facade. Once past it’s gates on historic Latmir street, you’ll find yourself transported to a secret hidden garden away from the bustling streets of downtown Philadelphia. Elena and Tim wanted an intimate easy-going wedding day and opted out from a traditional bridal party. Their color palette was bright and bold, with neutrals, greenery with bursts of fuchsia and magenta incorporating seasonal late summer florals and fruits including cherries, plums, and apricots. Their bright and modern palette paired with a classic garden-vibe made for such a lovely theme.
What was most memorable about their wedding day was their ceremony- with the hundreds of weddings I’ve photographed I’ve never had a thunderstorm hit mid-ceremony! Just as these two begun to walk down the aisle, the sky turned a dark grey and the wind began to pick up and it began to pour. All the wedding guests raced inside and these two kept their smiles bright and exchanged vows in the downstairs living room as guests huddled tightly filling the room with so much love and wonderful energy. Just as it was time for cocktail hour, the sun was back out and shining again and guests could gather on the lawn en enjoy hors d'oeuvres and drinks.
The reception room at the Colonial Dames is also such a lovely canvas for any wedding. With the walls in a shade of robin’s egg blue and large windows on either side of the room, the intimate room feels huge and airy. These two danced the night away with their guests after a wonderful meal from Diverse Catering!
