Molly and Chris's vision for their day was to have a simple- they wanted to enjoy their families and friends over an intimate meal together. They wanted to keep with wedding day traditions, but stylistically wanted to modernize their wedding with rustic and unique details that reflected their hometown of Somerville, MA. Molly and Chris both really care about good home cooked, local food, so having their celebration at Loyal Nine, just on the border of Somerville and Cambridge, was the perfect location. Loyal Nine create meals that are fresh, local, simple, clean flavors with a modern interpretation.

Molly got ready at their home in Somerville with her mom, sister, and sister-in-law. She had her hair done at Lindsay Griffin’s hair salon that morning in a simple and sleek low bun and did her own makeup... but first they enjoyed a homemade meal of fresh vegetables, toast, and smoked salmon for lunch that Molly and her sister and mom prepared. Molly’s dress was untraditionally simple and felt like something from another era. It was made of lightweight cotton, perfect for the summer heat, with ruffled sleeves with eyelet detailing and a lace bodice. The dress matched Molly’s bouquet perfectly- Wildfolk Studio created a bouquet that looked like a painting, with blush and white tones.

After the ceremony at their local church, we walked around the quaint neighborhood around their church, with tree lined streets, brick sidewalks, historic homes as the hot summer sun filtered through the trees and kissed their skin. One of our favorite parts of the day was cooling off at a local bodega for some ice cold sparkling water (it’s important to stay hydrated on your wedding day!)

The party met us at Loyal Nine for a casual and laid back cocktail hour on their back garden patio. Guests basked in the summer sun and cooled off in the shaded bar and picnic tables.

Cocktail Hour Menu:

-Vegetable Crudite: Piccalilli aioli, pease pudding, buttermilk
-Salt + Vinegar Chips: smoked fish mousse,
-Soused Bluefish: brown bread, cream, radishes

After cocktail hour, guests were invited to sit for the main meal in the dining area where you could take a peek into the kitchen to see the chefs at work, and where the decor of captains chairs, industrial light fixtures, reclaimed wood, and a smokey teal wall color reflects the location of Cambridge, by the water right off the bay. The menu was the perfect meal for a summer evening! It was casual food, but put together beautifully with so much thought to the presentation and flavors.

Dinner Menu:

-Kohlrabi + Celery Salad: sheep's milk cheese + tarragon
-Roast Chicken: celery, cornmeal croutons
-Potatoes, Cultured Cream
-Grilled Asparagus

Dessert:

-Homemade Ice Cream Sandwiches

First Dance: In the Aeroplane Over the Sea - Neutral Milk Hotel

"What a beautiful face I have found in this place
That is circling all round the sun
What a beautiful dream
That could flash on the screen
In a blink of an eye and be gone from me
Soft and sweet
Let me hold it close and keep it here with me,

And one day we will die
And our ashes will fly from the aeroplane over the sea
But for now we are young
Let us lay in the sun
And count every beautiful thing we can see
Love to be
In the arms of all I'm keeping here with me, me
...Can't believe how strange it is to be anything at all"

Dance floor opens: Holland, 1945 - Neutral Milk Hotel

"The only girl I ever loved was born with roses in her eyes
but then the buried her alive one day in 1945 with just her sister at her side
and it's so sad to see the world agree
that they'd rather see their faces filled with flies
Oh then I'd want to keep white roses in her eyes"

The entire room was filled with love and all of Molly and Chris’ friends, everyone sang along and grabbed each other. The song is bittersweet and sad, the music is uplifting and powerful, and they all sang the song as loud as possible as if in defiance- just to hang onto the beautiful night filled with so much love just a little longer.
